President George W. Bush will meet Julia Singer when he arrives in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, July 30, 2004. Singer, 17, is an active volunteer with the Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since January 2002, President Bush has met with hundreds of individuals around the country, like Singer, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

For the past three years Singer has been a volunteer with Fieldstone Farm, helping children who are taking part in Fieldstone’s therapy-based equine programs. She volunteers once a week during the school year, and this summer has been assisting with camps for students four days a week. Fieldstone Farm’s equine therapy involves horse-related activities designed for people with cognitive, physical, emotional, and social disabilities. Students learn riding skills and basic horse care while improving their own mobility, coordination, posture, and self-esteem.

USA Freedom Corps has launched “A Call to Summer Service”, an initiative to encourage Americans to spend a part of their summer in volunteer service. Through “A Call to Summer Service,” citizens are reminded that the summer months are an excellent time to answer the President’s Call to Service, strengthen their communities, and extend the compassion and greatness of America.
