President George W. Bush will meet Jane Davis, a registered nurse and Fort Bragg spouse who has recently returned from working at Ground Zero in New York when he arrives in Fayetteville, North Carolina tomorrow. The President will recognize Davis as an example of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans. In his State of the Union address, President Bush called on  all Americans to dedicate at least two years—the equivalent of 4,000 hours—to service to their communities, our country and the world. President Bush is recognizing men and women from around the country who are answering the call to service as part of his USA Freedom Corps initiative.

For the past six years, Davis has been an active volunteer with the American Red Cross and most recently volunteered with the Red Cross at Ground Zero in New York City. Davis spent more than six weeks in New York City providing health services for demolition crews and emergency workers.

Davis is also involved with a number of volunteer activities through Fort Bragg's volunteer services office. Davis has been active in the Family Readiness Group, which offers a networking program for military families and is involved in the base's quarterly volunteer recognition program, the Iron Mike Awards.

President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to foster an American culture of service, citizenship and responsibility.
