President Bush to Recognize Milwuakee Businesswoman for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Linda Stephenson upon arrival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Stephenson is a local businesswoman who has dedicated her time over the past 36 years to helping more than 30 local, national, and international nonprofit organizations.

President George W. Bush will meet Linda Stephenson when he arrives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin tomorrow. Stephenson is a local businesswoman who has dedicated her time over the past 36 years to helping more than 30 local, national, and international nonprofit organizations.

AIn his State of the Union address, President Bush called on all Americans to dedicate at least two years of their lives—the equivalent of 4,000 hours—in service to their communities, our country and the world. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the country who are answering the call to service, and will recognize Stephenson as an example of the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans through his USA Freedom Corps initiative.

Stephenson has used the talents she honed as President and CEO of the Zigman Joseph Stephenson public relations firm to help nonprofit organiza tions with development, marketing and strategic planning. Stephenson has served on the boards of directors of more than 30 nonprofit organizations, and is currently sitting on the boards of directors of 12 organizations, including Public Allies, Leave A Legacy, the Kearney Foundation, the YMCA, the Youth Leadership Academy, and Goodwill Industries. She also mentors young professionals involved in nonprofit management and has actively volunteered at her childrenÕs school where she coordinated fundraising and served as a trustee for the University School of Milwaukee.

President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to foster an American culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through the USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion around the world.
