President Bush to Recognize Milwaukee Area Man for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Roy Bubeck upon arrival in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, on Friday, October 3, 2003. Bubeck, President and CEO of Badger
Mutual Insurance Company, encourages employees to volunteer and take on service
projects within the community.
Earlier this year, President Bush celebrated the first anniversary of the USA
Freedom Corps – his initiative to engage all Americans in service to their
neighbors and their nation. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the
country, like Bubeck, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
Since becoming President and CEO in 1997, Bubeck has worked to create a
culture of service throughout his company. Bubeck encourages employees to mentor
local school children, volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club and
participate in the annual Spring Neighborhood Clean-Up. Employees also
participate in company-wide competitions to help raise funds for the United Way
and regularly donate food and toys to women and children in need. In 2001,
Bubeck initiated a service project among employees to help make their office
neighborhood more safe and secure. Employees helped to put new lights up on the
streets and on homes, and walked door-to-door making sure residents had working
smoke detectors.
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to
foster a culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through the USA
Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to
volunteer service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to
protect our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion
around the world. Interested volunteers can find opportunities in their own
neighborhoods through the USA Freedom Corps web site at
www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by
calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
