Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of USA Freedom Corps Desiree T. Sayle will address “Make A Difference Day” volunteers and participate in the service project at The Frederick Douglass House in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, October 23, 2004.

Volunteers will assemble for landscaping work and grounds cleanup at the Frederick Douglass House to mark “Make A Difference Day,” an annual day of service mobilizing millions of volunteers in service to their communities. This will be one of thousands of projects taking place across America, as a part of “Make A Difference Day,” which is now in its 14th year.

In addition, Sayle will present the President’s Call to Service Award to Patricia Clay, an outstanding volunteer from the Anacostia area of Washington, D.C. Clay volunteers to help revitalize her community through Main Street Anacostia, an organization which fosters economic development. She also organizes toys for tots drives, mentors children at a local school, and participates in AIDS and breast cancer fund raising walks every year. The Award is an initiative of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, which was established by President George W. Bush to recognize and encourage volunteer service and civic participation.

Scheduled to join Sayle are Charles L. Davenport Jr., AmeriCorps*NCCC Capital Region; Joe Lawler, National Park Service National Capital Region; David Eisner, CEO, Corporation for National and Community Service; Jack Curry, Executive Editor and Vice President of USA Weekend Magazine; Bob Goodwin, President and CEO, The Points of Light Foundation; and Brian Daher, The Office of Job Corps, Employment & Training Administration. “Make A Difference Day” is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network.
