Peace Corps, AARP, IBM and Government Agencies to Present Research, Strategies to Attract the Best and the Brightest

The Peace Corps will be participating in a seminar and panel discussion on new and innovative ways to attract talented and experienced employees into the federal workforce on January 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

As a record number of experienced federal workers will soon retire, resign or otherwise leave the government, the nation faces an inadequate pipeline of talent to replace these losses. Strategic and immediate action is needed to strengthen the federal civil service in order to maintain a capable and competent government workforce. Public and private sector human resource experts from the Peace Corps, U.S. Department of Treasury, Small Business Administration, the AARP, and IBM will participate in discussions this on pressing subject.

The schedule includes opening remarks by Linda Springer, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and a presentation by the President and CEO of Partnership of Public Service, Max Stier, of FedExperience and its recent study on how to attract, manage, and develop a talented federal workforce. A panel discussion will follow and will include Patricia Connelly, Director of Human Resource Management for Peace Corps, Stanley Litow, President of the IBM International Foundation, Deborah Russell, Director of Workforce Issues at AARP, as well as management and human resources leaders from other federal agencies.
