National Volunteer Week - April 23 through April 29, 2006

"Inspire by Example" is the theme of this year's National Volunteer Week, showcasing the power volunteers have to inspire not only other people to volunteer but also the people they serve.  National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of volunteers across the country and to promote existing opportunities for all Americans to participate in volunteer service.

This year, USA Freedom Corps and the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation are asking you to recognize your volunteers' achievement by joining the thousands of organizations working to deliver the President's Volunteer Service Award to deserving volunteers.

The Points of Light Foundation has also developed an online toolkit which will help you plan and publicize your recognition activities on the local, state and national levels. Click here to find the toolkit and download the materials.

April also marks National and Global Youth Service Day.  From April 21 through April 23, NGYSD mobilizes youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service and learning, supports youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public, the media, and policymakers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.
