15 Library Schools Share Quality Online Courses via WISE Consortium |
Fifteen library and information science (LIS) schools share
online courses with each other’s students via WISE,
the Web-based Information Science Education Consortium. Through
the award-winning distance education program, the schools
provide students with elective courses that are high quality,
cost-effective, and diverse. In the past four years, WISE
schools have offered more than 330 courses to more than 550
students. The project received two Laura Bush 21st Century
Librarian Program grants from the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) to provide faculty with online training
in distance education pedagogy, to recruit partner schools,
and to collaborate with LIS organizations to develop graduate
and continuing education courses.

I
would like to recognize the museum and library professionals
who have taken time out of their busy schedules in the past
year to serve as panelists in our Washington D.C. offices
or to participate as field reviewers from their home offices.
On my travels, time and time again, I hear that the IMLS peer
review process is the “gold standard” to which
other organizations aspire. The commitment and participation
of our peer reviewers is the engine that drives this process.
Their dedication, knowledge, and generosity ensures that IMLS
supports those projects that highlight the best of museum
and library practice and build the capacity of museums and
libraries to serve the American people. Click
here to view the full list.
