RECOVERY INFORMATION

SCHOOLS: ALL OPEN except Reserve Christian until further notice

WATER: the water levels in those low-lying areas that received water from the surge brought on by Ike are beginning to see the water slowly recede from their property. This gradual lowering of water levels parish wide is expected to continue for the next several days.

BLUE TARP REGISTRATION: has RESUMED at 1801 W. Airline Hwy in LaPlace.  Please call     1-888-766-3258 for more information.

ROAD CLOSURES:  *U.S. 51 / I-10 / I-55 on ramps and off ramps closed due to high water  

FOOD STAMPS REGISTRATION:  Hours: 8 am - 8 pm

New Wine Christian Fellowship at 1929 West Airline Hwy in LaPlace. Registration will be from until September 23, 2008. Residents are required to bring proof of identification, income, and residency.  Reminder: Burning is illegal in St. John Parish per Ordinance: 93-66, Ch. 10 

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE DEBRIS IN THE DRAINAGE DITCHES AND CANALS residents are asked to begin cleaning their property and place their green debris in one pile at the edge of the road. Please separate green goods from white goods to assist in debris clean up.

Hubbard begins to bring Delinquent Accounts in for payment - 8/21/2008 - July 1, 2008 began a process for St. John that has not been done in years when Parish President Bill Hubbard enacted the painstaking and strong policy of disconnecting those customers who hold delinquent utility accounts.

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) approval process begins - 8/13/2008 - After months of waiting for the FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Maps) to be delivered to parish officials, the long awaited maps arrived on August 7, 2008.

Hubbard and Council agree on need for Historic Redevelopment - 8/13/2008 - Parish President Bill Hubbard sought the services of a historic redevelopment and beautification consultant and proposed to the Council for St. John Parish to enter into an agreement for a Historic Redevelopment and Beautification plan for several key areas parish wide.

Council approves new Millage rate and Bond Refinancing - 8/12/2008 - Resolution 08-23 adopted the parish's millage rates to the 2007 rates with the exception of the Parish General Obligation Bond Millage which is being reduced 1.5 mils to 14.5 from the previous rate of 16 mils. Also, the Council approved Resolution 08-27 offered by the administration to refinance several existing bonds in order to take advantage of new interest rates.
