Leadership

Communicating to the Media, Public and Congress

formerly titled Executive Communications Workshop

Overview

Public executives and managers often represent their agencies to external audiences: the media, Congress, the public, and other agencies. This highly interactive workshop will prepare you for these important, visible, high-risk, high reward interactions, where delivering a clear and concise message is critical. You will practice oral and written communication skills in a variety of settings, including a news conference, a briefing, a public hearing, and a Congressional hearing. Through videotaped sessions and informal debriefings, you will refine your message, improve your presentation style, and learn techniques to emphasize key points to stay on message and avoid surprises. You will exchange ideas with colleagues from other agencies and learn how to develop best practices.
