Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

Job Description

NIH Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists perform procedures and examinations in hospital radiology departments under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers to produce radiographic studies which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body.  Diagnostic radiologic technologists receive and interpret requests and/or instructions for radiologic procedures; gain the cooperation of patients; operate radiographic equipment; protect patients from secondary radiation; and record results.   These positions require knowledge of radiation protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; and knowledge of the physical concept of energy and the property of X-rays and electric circuits to perform diagnostic procedures and to assist as a member of a medical team in radiologic examinations.
