NEWS ABOUT THE 50th
Corporate Archivist
Myra O'Canna is a member of the 50th Anniversary Committee
and its team leader for the birthday celebration to
be held on November 1, 1999. Most appropriately, the
celebration will be located in front of Building 800,
which opened in 1949. Sandians will enjoy a ceremony
consisting of patriotic music, speeches by local and
national dignitaries, placement of a time capsule,
and a (it is anticipated, large) birthday cake.
We have been soliciting items
for the time capsule, which will represent all vice
presidencies and give a snapshot of Sandia's work
in 1999. Included are artifacts and information on
current technologies and processes, information on
Sandia's 50th Anniversary events, a letter of greeting
from Paul Robinson to the Sandia president in 2024,
a sample of current methods of communication (e.g.,
disk, videotape, and cd rom), Lab News photographs,
news releases, Sandia center home pages, and predictions
of what Sandia will be like in the year 2024 when
the capsule is opened.
Please submit your predictions
and/or artifacts to Myra O'Canna at MS 0612. Items
included in the capsule will be packaged carefully
to ensure the archival materials' safe arrival in
2024.
Watch for more information in
the Lab News and Daily News on the upcoming
50th Anniversary events, Sandia Day on Saturday, September
25, and the November 1 celebration.
