Harold S. Taniguchi is director of the King County Department of Transportation, overseeing its transit, road services, fleet administration, and airport divisions.

Taniguchi has worked for King County since 1983 in various positions, including deputy director of the Department of Transportation and manager of its Road Services division.

Under Taniguchi’s guidance the department has delivered vital local and regional transportation improvements and advanced key program and policy initiatives launched by King County Executive Ron Sims. These include providing transit and road services that keep people and the economy of King County moving, taking action in response to global warming, continuing exceptional financial management, and promoting community development that supports walking and transit service. The department is increasingly being recognized as one of the greenest transportation agencies in the U.S.

Director’s Office

The Director’s Office provides overall leadership, coordination, and support for the transportation department’s airport, fleet, road, and transit services. The office:

Leads the department’s work on initiatives addressing major issues including emergency preparedness, global warming and regional transportation planning.

Prepares for emergencies by developing and practicing plans to keep people moving and safe in the event of severe storms, earthquakes, or other crises.

Plans transportation improvements that emphasize the following:

Communicates with the public about projects, policies, activities, and services. We encourage you to explore our Web site and learn more about what we’re doing, view videos about our programs, find out about public meetings and volunteer opportunities, and share your comments.

Measures and reports on the department’s performance through KingStat program, to ensure accountability to the public.

Ensures cost-effective delivery of services and accountability to the public by overseeing the department’s budget planning and performance and by measuring and reporting on the department’s performance through the KingStat program. The Director’s Office stretches public dollars by securing grants for transportation projects.
