Experiential Workshop
at the King County Clerk’s Office
(Offering up to 10 CLE
credits for WSBA Members)
The Department of Judicial
Administration (DJA) offers an educational workshop in which attorneys
can earn up to ten (10) Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits approved
by the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA). The workshop is of
particular value to those whose practice or work assignments include King County cases. Emphasis is given to
sharing “how-to” procedural information, with practice tips and
suggestions on how to avoid common problems, including errors that might
cause avoidable delays or incur fees.
The Experiential
Workshop at the King County Clerk’s Office, held in the King County
Courthouse in downtown Seattle,
covers the principal functions of the Clerk’s Office, plus Ex Parte, and Family Court
Services or the Arbitration Department. Instruction is provided by DJA
supervisors and other subject matter experts. Participants receive
extensive information in a printed notebook and learn how to access
services online, by telephone, and in-person.
The workshop is held on the first and second Tuesdays
(5 hours of instruction each day) of every other month (February, April,
June, August, October, December). Enrollment in the Experiential Workshop at the King County Clerk’s Office is
limited to twenty (20) people, who must secure their seats by paying the
$100 tuition by about two weeks in advance. Enrollees are attorneys or
legal staff.
DJA is instituting a few changes in the workshop in
2007. The workshop is more thematic, with some example cases treated at
various stages of their life cycles. A new segment focuses on how sealed
records are handled. Participants now choose between an hour with
Arbitration or with Family Court Services. Additional time is
given to demonstrations of Electronic Court Records (ECR) services, particularly E-Filing (with
E-Service) and online access to case files.
The last two hours of the workshop provide an
introduction to technology that customers use in working with the Clerk’s
Office, particularly E-Filing, E-Service, and ECR
Online, concluding with a brief written evaluation of the workshop.
For further information or to enroll in an upcoming
workshop, contact the Amy Ebersole at amy.ebersole@kingcounty.gov or
(206) 296-7866. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
