For Immunizations & Response Management

In January 2007, the American Health Information Community (AHIC) approved a recommendation to develop the Immunizations & Response Management Use Case that addresses cross cutting AHIC priorities. AHIC is a federally-chartered advisory committee and provides input and recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on how to make health records digital and interoperable, and assure that the privacy and security of those records are protected, in a smooth, market-led way.

This use case has been developed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), with opportunities for review and feedback by interested stakeholders within both the public and private sectors. To facilitate this process, the use case was developed in two stages:

  • The Prototype Use Case, which describes the flows of the use case at a high level and facilitates initial discussion with stakeholders; and
  • The Detailed Use Case, which documents all of the events and actions within the use case at a detailed level.

ONC would like to thank you for your participation in the development of the Public Health Case Reporting Use Case. Your feedback has been invaluable. This use case will play an important role in advancing the national health IT agenda.

ONC distributed a draft detailed use case and requested feedback in February 2008. These activities resulted in approximately 224 feedback items from 14 organizations. Feedback has been incorporated into the applicable sections of the Detailed Use Case.

If you are interested in receiving a summary of the dispositioned Draft Detailed Immunizations & Response Management feedback, please send an email message to: usecase4@hhs.gov and put "Feedback Disposition Requested" in the title. The disposition summary will include the feedback received from all organizations and individuals. In the circumstance where the submitter was anonymous, the submitter will be identified as "Anonymous" in the disposition summary.

"We have hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq, and many of the soldiers would arrive without records in Germany, with no record of the CAT scans or what happened in surgery in Afghanistan or Iraq. The clinicians in Germany would have to re-operate on the patient, would have to redo all their x-ray evaluations, CAT scans, etc...." ~ Colonel John Holcomb
