Environmental Stewardship and Transportation Infrastructure Project Reviews

The Task Force identified three areas where federal decision-making could be coordinated better or where there are opportunities for other improvements in the environmental review process:

1. Project Purpose and Need
2. Indirect and Cumulative Impacts
3. Integrated Planning

The Task Force established interagency Work Groups to address these three topics. The efforts of the Work Groups are designed to accomplish two goals. First, the Work Groups’ products should provide recommendations upon which the Task Force can act. Second, the products should serve as resources for practitioners involved in project development and review.

The Work Groups developed work plans to guide their efforts and each began by developing baseline information. This effort included gathering information on relevant laws and regulations, cataloguing related guidance documents and training programs, and talking with practitioners about their experiences in these areas.
