NOAA Kid's Day

The Library hosts the 2-6 year age group for NOAA's Annual Bring a Child to Work Day. In 2006, the library hosted over 100 children, with their parents and guardians, for a day of fun, science, film, and storytelling. The 2006 Kid's Day Theme centered around Turtles and Penguins. The library presented these activities:

Turtle Activities: Children learned about Turtles and Terrapins through stories, crafts, games, and creative play. Children also enjoyed a live turtle exhibit and talk by an expert! Children measured their height against a Sea Turtle cutout.

Penguin Activities: Children learned about penguins through storytelling of The Emperors Egg, Penguin Pet, and Penguins in the Fridge. Children also createed an Emperor Penguin craft and measured their height as compared to an Emperor Penguin cutout.

Game Room: Children and parents enjoyed cooperative playtime with puzzles, games, cards, and imaginative games on our Creataville carpet.

Presentations:

  • How to Handle Emergencies presented by Kersha Stephens, Office of Security, NOAA Library, SSMC3, 2nd floor.

  • Preventing Poisoning at Home and Bike Safety presented by the NOAA Safety and Environmental Compliance Office, SSMC4, Rooms 11153 and 11255 at 9:00 a.m. (20 minute intervals)
