August 21, 2006

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (HR-OEOD), the Diversity/Affirmative Action Board (DAAB), and the diversity working groups are sponsoring a Diversity Day and recruiting event Wednesday at Technical Area 3.

Laboratory employees can learn about diversity programs and the diversity working groups while partaking of free ice cream from Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors, said Danny Valdez of HR-OEOD. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the patio between the National Security Sciences and Otowi buildings.

Employees also have the opportunity to win free gifts. Only one sundae per person is allowed.

Representatives from all the working groups will be on hand to give out information and answer questions. Applications also will be available for employees interested in serving on a working group or the DAAB. Laboratory employees and subcontract personnel are eligible to sit on any of the diversity working groups. The DAAB is open to Los Alamos National Security employees.

The working groups are:

• African American DWG
• Asian American DWG
• Hispanic DWG
• American Indian DWG
• Women's DWG
• Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex DWG
• Deaf and Disabilities Awareness Group
• The Diversity/Affirmative Action Board (DAAB)
