The “Human Body Road Show,” a hands-on traveling exhibit developed by the Pacific Science Center and hosted by Los Alamos’ Bradbury Science Museum, will be visiting communities throughout Northern New Mexico this summer. The exhibit is free of charge.
“Come exercise your brain with puzzles, take-apart models, and comparisons of human bones and organs with those of animals. Build a model of a skeleton from individual bones, test your coordination skills, and find out more about how your brain works. The exhibits are stimulating on a variety of levels, so adults as well as children will find the experience valuable and entertaining,” said Karen Davenport of the Bradbury Science Museum.
The show is "self-guided" and is made up of more than 25 exhibits that include activities and information about the human bones, brain, organs, senses, and cells. There also are models, puzzles, and many hands-on activities geared toward children and adults. Museum educators also will be on hand to facilitate the exhibit and answer participants’ questions.
The “Road Show” makes its first stop today and Friday at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center, 3221 Rodeo Road in Santa Fe. It moves to the Española/Alcalde area July 13 and 14 at the Oñate Center on NM 68 Building 854; August 1 and 2 at the Taos Convention Center, 120 Civic Plaza Drive; and August 8 and 9 at the Rural Events Center on NM 84 to County Road 554 in Abiquiu. The show is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We're excited about the addition of the Human Body Road Show to the Bradbury's Summer Teaching Series,” said Lillian Montoya-Rael, Community Programs Office (CPO) director. “It's educational programs like these that continue to offer the public helpful and beneficial information on a wide variety of subjects."
The Bradbury Science Museum is part of the Laboratory’s Community Programs Office. The museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue in downtown Los Alamos. Museum hours are 10-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday and Monday. It is open seven days a week with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
