Changes planned to clearance processing

March 17, 2006

Beginning April 1, questionnaires for national security positions will have to be completed electronically at a secure Web site maintained by the Office of Personnel Management.

The change is being instituted by the National Nuclear Security Administration. Details are described in a all-employee memo from Jack Killeen, Security and Safeguards (S) Division leader.

Anyone who needs to process a questionnaire for national security positions, either as an initial clearance request, upgrade, reinstate or reinvestigation, will be required to complete and submit the questionnaire through the secure Web site, Killeen said.

"This electronic process should be more efficient than the current paper process and provides a number of advantages across a broad spectrum of people and organizations (both federal and contractor) currently involved in the clearance process," said Killeen.
