Separate pension plan for Lab employees to be discussed at UC regents meeting today

January 18, 2006

Regents of the University of California continue meeting today and one item to be discussed in open session is a recommendation to place UC Retirement Plan assets and liabilities of Laboratory employees, retirees and inactive members in a separate UC-sponsored pension plan, the UCRP-LANL Plan. This plan is subject to Department of Energy approval.

The action is one of a number of items on the regents' agenda today and Thursday at the UC, San Diego campus. The item regarding the separate pension plan is scheduled to begin at 11:50 a.m., Mountain Standard Time.

According to a UC Office of the President news release, establishing the new plan will support a smoother transition when the pension assets and liabilities for certain transferring [Laboratory] employees are subsequently moved to the Los Alamos National Security LLC pension plan as required under the new contract.

Portions of UC regents meetings are available through audio broadcasts on desktop computers.
