Speaker: Water is spiritual to Native Americans

April 13, 2005

Taos Pueblo Tribal Council member Gil Suazo spoke about the importance of water at a talk Tuesday as part of the Laboratory's observance of Native American Heritage Month. Suazo, a 32-year employee of the Lab, retired in 2001 from the Community Relations (CRO) Office. "Water is a very spiritual thing to the Indian people," Suazo told attendees at the Materials Science Laboratory Auditorium at Technical Area 3. Suazo is a co-spokesman for the Taos Pueblo water task force and a member of the State Drought Monitoring Working Group. Two Diversity Cinema screenings are scheduled later this month as part of American Indian Heritage Month at the Lab. See Tuesday's Daily Newsbulletin for more information. Before his talk, Suazo asked for a moment in silence in memory of Laboratory employee Edwin Pena, who was killed in car accident last month. Pena worked for Network Engineering (CCN-5).
