New process in place for tracking checked-out accountable CREM

By Public Affairs Office

January 20, 2005

Users of accountable classified removable electronic media (ACREM) now have an alternative approach for change of custody. Change of custody is when one borrower of checked-out ACREM hands off the item to another approved borrower for more than one hour.

Rules in place mandated that changes of custody be tracked via notification to cremcustody@lanl.gov by electronic mail and to the appropriate classified library custodian. The change now offers a simple Web-based data entry form that captures and stores the data, making it possible to query the database to determine who has the borrowed ACREM at any one time. The form can be accessed at http://int.lanl.gov/security/protectinfo/crem/custody_change/ online. The worker who receives the ACREM from another is responsible for entering the data. If a computer is not readily available, the borrower should call the Security Help Desk at 5-2002 to perform the data entry.

Security officials anticipate that when version 4.0 of the classified media librarian procedure is issued, the Web interface will become the only acceptable approach to entering change of custody data. All borrowers are encouraged to begin using the new Web data entry form.

Links to the Change of Custody Web interface is located on the ACREM home page at http://int.lanl.gov/security/protectinfo/crem/ online. Given that the Web interface is currently a pilot program, feedback on its usability can be sent to crcp@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
