Students tour Magnet Lab

By Tatjana K. Rosev

July 16, 2008

Students touring the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MST-NHMFL) learned about magnetic fields, inertial storage motor-generators for high field pulsed magnets, and capacitor-driven pulsed magnets. The tour was part of the Summer Lecture Series sponsored by the LANL Institutes, Materials Physics Applications Division, and the Students' Association.

The lectures are designed to present the innovative science done at the Lab to students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff. In the course of 18 talks and several site visits, participants will have a unique opportunity to tour facilities and learn about the Lab directly from top scientists.

Upcoming tours include:

• RAVE, 11 a.m. to noon, today
• Roadrunner and the Network Operations Center, 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday (July 17)
• DARHT, noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, July 24
• LANSCE, 10 a.m. to noon, July 30, and 10 a.m. to noon, August 27.

“Students should watch their e-mail for details about future tours and events,” said SA chair Pawan Rastogi. “If you are a student and are not receiving e-mails from the Students’ Association, e-mail saexec@lanl.gov.”
