Laboratory Director Michael Anastasio talked to employees Thursday about the Lab's 2008 fiscal year budget.
At an all-employee meeting from the National Security Sciences Building Auditorium and those watching on LABNET, Anastasio said that given the uncertainties of next year's budget, the Laboratory is beginning the planning process for a possible restructuring of the work force.
The director emphasized that there are a wide range of scenarios for which the Lab must plan, but said it is important for the Laboratory to begin this planning process now. "Delaying such prudent contingency planning only compounds the problem," Anastasio told employees and reiterated in an all-employee memo.

Anastasio also acknowledged the anxiety that the budget uncertainty creates, but asked employees to remain safe and secure in their work. "Now more than ever it is critical that we look out for each other's safety and security and take time to think before we act," he said.
Anastasio's talk will be rebroadcast on LABNET Channel 10 beginning at 7 a.m. Check the LABNET Channel 10 schedule for rebroadcast times.
