Deadline for Venture Acceleration Fund projects fast approaching

July 25, 2007

August 1 is the deadline to submit an idea for a project that promotes regional technology commercialization, new company formation, and business growth for Los Alamos National Security’s Venture Acceleration Fund.

The Venture Acceleration Fund was launched last fall to provide investments of up to $100,000 for projects with regional entrepreneurs, companies, investors, or strategic partners to promote technology commercialization, new company formation, and business growth.

The fund, administered by the Laboratory's Technology Transfer (TT) Division in conjunction with the Community Programs Office (CPO) and the Regional Development Corporation, is designed to build on the success of the Lab’s internally focused Technology Maturation Fund by serving as an externally focused fund to support regional businesses with a Laboratory affiliation.

Suggested projects must facilitate the creation and growth of regional ventures based on Laboratory technology or expertise. Eligible projects will support the Lab’s core missions and be characterized by the following:

• A significant opportunity for new company formation or growth in New Mexico
• Access to a strong, experienced business and technical team
• Ability to leverage matching funds from other sources
• A clear path for commercialization
• Identification of a profitable market using Laboratory technology or expertise, particularly technologies licensed from Los Alamos.

To submit an idea for a proposal, send a one-page or less idea statement that includes an abstract of the proposed project and the expected commercial and regional impacts that will be achieved to Belinda Padilla at bee@lanl.gov by electronic mail by August 1. Submitters will be notified if they have or have not been selected to submit a full proposal to the LANS VAF.

For more information about the LANS Venture Acceleration Fund, contact Padilla at 7-9896.
