This is a large, diverse, and diffuse health system serving about 1.8 million users (enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes) with a budget of about 4 billion dollars when appropriations and collections are combined.
The system also includes 34 urban health centers, serving about 600,000 self-identified Native Americans living in urban settings. Some of those served in urban programs are IHS beneficiaries (again—enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes) and some are not.
