Household hazardous waste collection continues June 20 with summer visits of Wastemobile

King County’s popular program continues 19th year of safeguarding environment

King County residents can start summer with a clean and safe home environment by taking their household hazardous waste to the Wastemobile, which makes stops in Woodinville on June 20-22, then in Tukwila on June 27-29.

The Wastemobile will be at the Woodinville Park & Ride at 17800 40th Ave. NE, followed by a stop at the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave. S., as it continues its 19th year of providing a free, safe and convenient way of disposing of household waste items, including pesticides, chlorine bleach, oil-based paints, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.), fluorescent bulbs/ballasts and other items.

These events are followed by another Wastemobile stop at the Tukwila Community Center, June 27-29, then a stop in Kenmore, July 4-6. Additional stops in King County communities are scheduled later this summer.

The Wastemobile is operated by King County as part of the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program. By properly disposing of these materials and keeping them out of drains and landfills, King County residents are helping safeguard the environment.

Created in 1989, the Wastemobile was the first program of its kind in the nation. In its 18 years in operation, the program collected more than 14,771 tons of household hazardous waste from nearly 329,000 King County residents.

Latex paint is one item that will no longer be accepted during household hazardous waste collection events. Research has shown that dried or solidified latex paint can be safely disposed through the regular solid waste process.
