Family fun comes to Enumclaw, July 18-20, with King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair

The finishing preparations are being made for the 146th-annual King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair, July 18-20, in Enumclaw. Parking and admission to this year’s fair are free.

“Grow It, Show It, Know It” is this year’s fair theme and reflects the event’s agricultural roots as the oldest county fair west of the Mississippi.

With agricultural displays, sustainable farming and recycling exhibits and nearly 70 vendors available to show visitors how they can save time and money through “green” actions and products, the King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair promises to be both a fun and informative family event.

Some of the great activities and features at this year’s fair include:

• A nine-hole putt-putt golf course that was created out of recycled items by a summer youth camp group;
• Pony rides;
• Kid’s tractor pull;
• The Wild West Let’s Pretend Show;
• Cook’s Racing Pigs; and
• Recycled arts and crafts activities.

Come to the fair and adopt a pet! King County Animal Services will be on hand Friday and Saturday, while the Seattle Humane Society will be there on Sunday, with a great assortment of cats and dogs that are ready for adoption.

Hungry? Options for food run the gamut – from a root beer float garden to classic favorites, such as hot scones, onion burgers, roasted corn on the cob, cotton candy and more.

Speaking of food, Melissa Young and Mark Dworkin, directors of the farming documentary, “Good Food,” will be at the fair on Friday, July 18 at 5:45 p.m., to provide an introduction for a special screening of their film, which was screened during this year’s Seattle International Film Festival.

Other featured attractions include talks with gardening expert and Enumclaw native Marianne Binetti, King County EcoConsumer Tom Watson, who will share his tips that will save you money and help protect the environment.

The 2008 King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair is at the Enumclaw Expo Center, formerly the King County Fairgrounds, near the corner of State Route 410 and 284th Avenue Southeast.
