A fun summertime tradition in the making, King County ‘Movies@Marymoor’ series returns

July 16 Will Ferrell comedy ‘anchors’ seven-film lineup; Viewer’s choice Aug. 27

King County’s popular “Movies@Marymoor” outdoor cinema series returns to Marymoor Park this summer and kicks off July 16 with the Will Ferrell comedy, “Anchorman.”

This year marks the fourth season of the movie series, which is held on the lawn at the park’s McNair Field. All movies are shown on a 30-foot by 50-foot inflatable screen, with high-quality sound supplied by Epic Events.

Seating opens at 7 p.m., and movies begin at dusk. Admission is free, but a donation of $5 for individuals and $15 for families is suggested. Proceeds go to support King County Parks.

The Academy Award-winning teen comedy, “Juno,” is set to run July 23, followed by the critically acclaimed “Monsoon Wedding” on July 30. The classic musical “Singin’ in the Rain” is Aug. 6, then the 2007 hit remake of “Hairspray” on Aug. 13 and “The Muppet Movie” on Aug. 20.

As a special treat for moviegoers at the “Juno,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” and “Hairspray” shows, Nintendo DS will be on site with free game demonstrations and other fun.

New this year is the “Viewer’s Choice” series finale, where movie-goers can vote for one of three popular movies, which will be show Aug. 27. Voting starts July 16 and can be done in-person at each movie night or online at http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=988262. The movie with the most votes will be announced at the Aug. 20 movie and shown as the series finale.

July 23 (8:54 p.m.) – Juno [PG-13]
July 30 (8:45 p.m.) – Monsoon Wedding [R]

Aug. 20 (8:11 p.m.) – The Muppet Movie [G]

The movie series is dog-friendly. People with dogs are asked to sit at the far end of the seating area, and must keep them on a leash and under control at all times. Owners must clean up after their pets.
