Iran Warden Message

Large-scale demonstrations have taken place in Tehran following the June 12 Presidential election. Media report that government authorities are arbitrarily arresting, detaining, and harassing demonstrators and bystanders, particularly youth. Cell phone usage and access to the Internet has been intermittently blocked. Presidential candidate Mousavi called for peaceful protests across Iran on June 15 and a national strike on June 16. Media report that some international journalists have been arrested and ordered to leave Iran. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. U.S. passport holders that are arrested or detained by Iranian authorities should request assistance from the Embassy of Switzerland, which serves as protecting power for U.S. interests in Iran. American citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. This replaces the Worldwide Caution dated July 16, 2008 to provide updated information on security threats and terrorist activities worldwide. Read more....

Security Issues regarding Gaza

The U.S. Embassy in London wishes to alert American citizens in the United Kingdom to the continuing possibility of large and disruptive protests against Israeli military intervention in the Gaza strip. There have been several large demonstrations in various cities within the United Kingdom. To date, most of these demonstrations have been peaceful with little or no violence, but they have included some anti-U.S. slogans. The size of these demonstrations has increased over time. As the situation continues to evolve, the possibility of larger demonstrations may increase, as does the potential for violence. Read more.
