Hurricane Ike Evacuations

As a precautionary measure for Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast, the Houston Office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) relocated detainees from local facilities that may be impacted by the storm.

These Texas facilities include:

  • Houston Processing Center
  • Montgomery County Jail
  • Polk County Jail

Medical personnel assisted with the relocation of any detainee who required specialized care. Detainees will have access to free telephone calls to contact their families at their new locations. ICE is notifying detainee attorneys, consular offices, and local community groups about the relocations.

For more information about an individual detainee’s status from any of the impacted Houston-area detention facilities, family members or attorneys may call the ICE Houston Field Office at: (832) 256-2295 or (281) 985-8400.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was established in March 2003 as the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. ICE is comprised of five integrated divisions that form a 21st century law enforcement agency with broad responsibilities for a number of key homeland security priorities.
