was
born January 5, 1907, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated
from Marquette University June 1930, where he received a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
Following his graduation, he was appointed as a Deck Officer
on July 14, 1930, and then commissioned as an Ensign on March
10, 1931. During his 34-year career, he served aboard the
following ships: OCEANOGRAPHER, GUIDE, SURVEYOR, BOWIE, and
the PIONEER. His other assignments included level and triangulation
parties throughout the United States, chief of party for combined
operations, instructor at the Naval Amphibious Training Unit,
the San Francisco District Office and at the time of his retirement
in 1964, as the District Officer at Kansas City, Missouri.
During World War II, Captain Beyma was transferred to the
War Department and served from January 20, 1944 to February
17, 1946, with the U.S. Army. He received the following medals
and ribbon: World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign
Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Battle
Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze
Star.
Captain Beyma was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle
and is survived by his children, Joe J. and Dennis C.
