BioRehab System

Resourceful use of biologic signals to provide an interesting and motivating experience to patients during rehabilitation therapy is the core of the BioRehab System. Generally, the BioRehab System takes signals detected by biologic sensors placed on patients as they participate in rehabilitation activities and uses the signals to control video games. The biologic signals are used to replace the usual game controls such as keystrokes, mouse or joystick movements and mouse or joystick button clicks. As patients exercise and participate in their rehabilitation activities, the sensors translate their effort so that the patient controls the games by their activities. Threshold levels can be adjusted for each channel individually and the clinician can thereby control the effort required from the patient in order to drive the games. In initial clinical tests, patients using the BioRehab System have typically exercised enthusiastically and for longer times without additional encouragement from therapists. The BioRehab System is comprised of both a hardware interface component and PC based software. The BioRehab System is designed for use by therapists with patients having movement impairments.
