 Programs: Early Childhood Education

The Special Education Bureau oversees programs that assist three to five year old children who have developmental delays, funded by the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B, 619, and the State of New Mexico. We are committed to supporting services to young children in natural environments as much as possible, so that young children receive instruction alongside typically developing peers, and engage with developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Staff coordinates with agencies serving children birth to three with developmental delays, i.e., early intervention programs administered by the Family Infant Toddler Program at the Department of Health, and other programs serving young children, e.g., Headstart. Our efforts are directed at promoting a smooth and effective transition between programs, avoiding gaps in service as children graduate from one set of services to another.
