Ground-based Velocity Track Display (GBVTD)

Principal Investigator: Shirley Murillo (HRD)

Team Members:

Peter Dodge (HRD)
Frank Marks (HRD)
Rob Rogers (HRD)
Nick Carrasco (UM-CIMAS/HRD)

Collaborating Scientists:

Wen-Chau Lee (NCAR)
Michael Bell (NCAR)
Colin McAdie (TPC)
Objectives:
The Ground-Based Velocity Track Display (GBVTD) is a wind retrieval algorithm that deduces a tropical cyclone's primary circulation using single-Doppler velocity radar data. This group intends to examine landfalling tropical cyclone's structure via the GBVTD technique.

Method:
As part of HRD's Hurricane Field Program, we'll continue to collect ground-based radar data in the vicinity of landfalling tropical cyclones.

Milestones:

  • Murillo et al. (H. Danny) paper [in progress]

  • Pitter et al. (H. Bret) paper [in progress]

  • Examine ground-based radar data collected during Hurricane Humberto (2007) at landfall in Texas.
