Recovery Walks! Philadelphia/Southeastern PA 2006–SAMHSA Sponsored
Description
PRO-ACT's Recovery Walks! is the largest walk for recovery from drug/alcohol addictions in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Last year, over 1,500 people participated. Be a part of this dramatic display and celebration of recovery. Join the Honor Guard! The Honor Guard will lead the Walk and recognize every person or family member with 10 or more years of recovery. Each member of the Honor Guard will receive a purple sash to wear, with their number of years of recovery on it. At a designated spot along the route, the Honor Guard will form two lines, one on either side of the walk path, facing each other. The pathway created by the Honor Guard, representing hundreds of years of recovery, will surround walkers with less time who will pass through, cheered on by their elders. Pass the word and sign up today!

"Celebrating Recovery"
Description
To promote the hopeful and healing message of recovery, THE OPEN DOOR of Indiana, PA, is participating in the 17th annual observance of NATIONAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION RECOVERY MONTH. We invite the Indiana community to join us in "CELEBRATING RECOVERY". Listen to the heartfelt stories of recovery from persons struggling with and succeeding in the recovery process over addiction to substance abuse - alcohol or other drugs. Recovery is a lifelong process and journey. The process involves not only the addict, but the addict's family and friends. By participating in RECOVERY MONTH, you are supporting those already in recovery and encouraging those in need of help to seek treatment. Learning about these issues will make it easier to break down barriers to treatment. And it requires everyone's help to build a stronger, healthier community - together.

3rd Annual Recovery Sports-Link 2006
Description
Third Annual Recovery-Sports-Link

The Institute for Research, Education and Training in Addictions (IRETA) and the Northeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeATTC) is proud to announce the Third Annual Recovery Sports-Link an Evening with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday September 26, 2006. This community awareness anti-stigmatization event is held in celebration of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

The 2006 Recovery Month theme Join the Voices for Recovery: Build a Stronger, Healthier Community encourages communities to take immediate action to improve local access to treatment and recovery. "Too often, society focuses on the devastating health and societal consequences of substance use disorder, " said Michael Flaherty, Ph.D., executive director of IRETA. "But recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction is happening for millions of Americans." Dr. Flaherty adds, "When substance use disorder is appropriately diagnosed and treated, recovery brings many happy results Families heal. Money is saved. Life gets better. Recovering people give back. Everyone wins."

The Pittsburgh Pirates join seven other Major League Baseball organizations in sponsoring Recovery Month celebrations nationwide this September. Pre-game ceremonies and recognition of fans in recovery and their treatment professionals mark the event. Information distributed to the thousands of other fans in attendance will convey that substance use disorder is a treatable illness with positive recovery possibilities.

The National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Celebration is in its seventeenth year and features hundreds of events throughout the United States honoring people in recovery and raising community awareness about the effectiveness of treatment and recovery practices.

For more information and possible sponsorship of this important community awareness anti-stigmatization event contact Holly Hagle at holly@ireta.org or 412-258-8565
