This workshop continues the dialogue begun at the Shoreline Change Conference
of 2002 by bringing together researchers and coastal managers who are interested in
shoreline change and coastal management decisions. Presenters and participants will
review technology, tools, data, and procedures used to analyze shoreline change, as well
as federal programs that are developing and applying shoreline data sets. The workshop
will also emphasize state- and community-level management applications and challenges,
with the ultimate goal of unifying local and national needs.
- To foster dialogue among researchers and coastal managers about tools, data, and
procedures used to make coastal management decisions
- To explore policy, planning, and regulatory approaches to managing erosion hazards
- To facilitate a coexistence of local needs with national needs and objectives
- 75 invited participants from government agencies, academia, and the private sector who have a shared interest in managing shoreline change
