Reaching a 'Hire' Goal.
VR employment services provide opportunities to persons who have mental or physical disabilities which prevent them from getting and keeping a job. For eligibility, services must be deemed likely to result in employment.
To establish eligibility and plan appropriate services, the rehabilitation process begins with an assessment of the strengths and limitations of the individual. An individualized plan of employment (IPE) is jointly developed by consumer and counselor. The program is then carefully monitored and adjustments made if necessary.
Services can include:
- Evaluation, counseling and testing
- Diagnostic services
- Physical and mental restoration
- Assistive technology
- Rehabilitation engineering
- College and vocational education
- Job placement
|
- Job coaching
- On-the-job training
- Supported employment
- Transportation
- Personal assistance
- Vehicle, home, job, worksite modifications

Kelly
Travis' learning disability served as motivation to
help others. After earning a BS in education, she taught
children with hearing impairments and now operates a daycare
center. And she's still working with VR, providing
employment opportunities for others who've received VR services. |

Because of autism, Travis Wilson has difficulty communicating with some people. But as a
bank clerk in Charlotte, hes a whiz with numbers, handling millions in investments daily. VR provided him with counseling, evaluation and training. Travis proves every day how valuable that investment was. |

A learning disability hasnt slowed
Lawanna Graham down. She operates a forklift at Atlantic Veneer in Beaufort. Her manager says she has plenty of potential to keep moving up. VR assisted with job placement, but Lawanna and her forklift do the heavy lifting. |
