Director Arthur F. Rosenfeld
 

Arthur F. Rosenfeld was confirmed by the United States Senate�as the16th Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

Arthur F. Rosenfeld was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 3, 2006 as the 16th Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. He began his tenure as Director of the FMCS under a recess appointment on January 4, 2006.

Director Rosenfeld formerly served as General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, having been unanimously confirmed for that position by the U.S. Senate on May 26, 2001. Prior to his confirmation as General Counsel for the NLRB, Mr. Rosenfeld was Senior Labor Counsel of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

During his tenure on the Senate committee staff, Mr. Rosenfeld was senior labor advisor to then-Committee Chairman James M. Jeffords on matters pertaining to labor and employment law. Immediately prior to joining the Committee, Mr. Rosenfeld worked at the U.S. Department of Labor (1986-1997) in a number of capacities, including Counsel for Regulations in the Division of Employee Benefits, Special Assistant to the Solicitor of Labor, and Associate Deputy Secretary of Labor. Mr. Rosenfeld practiced labor law in the Washington, D.C. office of Hansell & Post (1984-1986), and began his career in Washington as a labor attorney with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1979.

A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Rosenfeld received a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law (1979), an M.B.A. in labor relations from Lehigh University (1974), and a B.A. from Muhlenberg College in Allentown (1970). He was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 1979, and is a member of the Bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and several U.S. Courts of Appeals. Mr. Rosenfeld has been elected a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
