The objective of the CORAL SHIPREP ship reporting system is to provide important protection for the fragile environment of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and its cultural resources.  As importantly, given the obstacles that make navigation hazardous in this area, this system will provide mariners with critical alerts and other important information to assist them in navigating safely through the area.  Furthermore, it will increase knowledge of ship movements and facilitate a timely response to any developing maritime emergencies.

This internationally adopted reporting system became operational on May 1, 2008. Immediately upon crossing the reporting area boundary, a notification should be sent in the prescribed format and data syntax to the shore-based Authority via email to nwhi.notifications@noaa.gov. Detailed reporting requirements follow.
