April 2008 This issue addresses the release of the Draft Monument Management Plan and associated Environmental Assessment on April 22, 2008––Earth Day! The update also provides information about the nine local public meetings statewide, and offers up a good news story about students from Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences who toured Midway in January of this year.
February 2008 This issue addresses the Monument Management Plan's framework, six key management needs, the new permit scheme and the facinating research being done in the Monument in partnership with HURL and their two deepwater submersibles, the Pisces IV and V.
September 2007 This issue highlights the management planning process, provides summary tables of views expressed during the public scoping period, outlines the vision, mission and goals of the Monument Management Plan, and ends with a "good news!" story about turning the tide of extinction for the Laysan Duck. Scoping Report & Summary If you would like to be added (or removed from) the Monument Management Plan mailing list (which is different from the Monument's e-mail listserve), or if you prefer to receive future updates via electronic mail or hard copy, please contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife office at (808) 792-9530 with your full name and address. |
