The Howard Hughes Medical Institute aims to select the best biomedical scientists at a critical early stage of their faculty careers, and to provide them with flexible funding to develop scientific programs of exceptional merit. |
Have a doctoral degree; hold a tenure-track position as assistant professor or higher rank at an eligible institution; have between 2 and 6 years of experience since first appointment as an assistant professor. |
Full salary and benefit; research support of $150,000 to $300,000 per year, depending on the year.

Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award (K25)

To provide mentored research experiences to gain additional expertise in a new research area or in an area that will significantly enhance an investigator's research capabilities (from postdoctoral to senior faculty level); to help ensure that diverse pools of highly trained scientists are available in adequate numbers and in appropriate research areas to address the Nation's biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs. |
U.S. citizen or non-citizen national or permanent resident, with advanced degree in quantitative area of science or engineering; mentor must have extensive behavioral, biomedical, bioengineering or bioimaging research experience. |
$75,000 to $180,100 a year salary (consistent with established salary structure); fringe benefits, based on sponsoring institution's rate; $20,000 to $50,000 per year research development support; 8 percent of direct costs for facilities and administrative costs. |

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) for Individual Senior Fellows (F33)

To provide senior fellowship support to experienced scientists who wish to make major changes in the direction of their research careers or who wish to broaden their scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities as independent research investigators in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. |
U.S. citizen or a noncitizen national or permanent resident; must have received a doctoral degree or its equivalent from an accredited domestic or foreign institution; at least 7 subsequent years of relevant research or professional experience and will have established an independent research career. |
