ETL Hosts Students from Clark Atlanta University

November 21, 2003

Contact: Jorgeann Hiebert

For three days, November 18-20, 2003, ETL hosted Dr. Randal Mandock (Director, Earth Systems Science Program) and four students from Clark Atlanta University (CAU) under a grant received from the NOAA MSI/EPP program. The Clark Atlanta grant was titled: "Program Development and Enhancement in Atmospheric and Environmental Science at Clark Atlanta University". Under this program the CAU students will visit several research facilities, be offered interships, and have scientists come to their school to present lectures. ETL will provide internships to two students this coming summer to work in one of three research areas being conducted in the lab.

While in Boulder, Colorado, the students heard from a variety of ETL scientists on research being conducted, saw various instruments used in our research, toured the NOAA facility, and met with the SOARS (Student Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science) Director, Dr. Tom Windham. SOARS is partially sponsored by NOAA.

ETL has had a long standing relationship with Clark Atlanta University. In prior years we have had interns working on research topics and we have provided lecturers for the Earth Systems Science Program.
