About Us

The Conservation Education program (CE) helps people of all ages understand and appreciate our country's natural resources and how to conserve those resources for future generations. Through structured educational experiences and activities targeted to varying age groups and populations, Conservation Education enables people to realize how natural resources and ecosystems affect each other and how resources can be used wisely. But Conservation Education doesn't preach. Instead, the program equips people to make their own intelligent, informed resource decisions. Through Conservation Education, people develop the critical thinking they need to understand the complexities of ecological problems. It also encourages people to act on their own to conserve natural resources and use them in a responsible manner.

Conservation Education's Home Page is designed to improve our communication with the larger communities of educators and the general public. It includes information on specific programs and activity dates, as well as on curricular resources for teachers and others. Programs are listed by target audiences, and include information on locations, costs, and who to contact. Also included in the program section is the National Conservation Education Task Force Report, including recommendations approved by Chief Dombeck in October 1997. Curricular resources include Conservation Education curricula such as Investigating Your Environment, as well as contacts for Conservation Education in each state. We have also included a copy of Link the combined quarterly newsletter of the Conservation Education, Nature Watch, and Interpretation programs. To expand communications further, we have included links to other environmental education Web sites. We hope to raise awareness of our own and other's efforts at improving conservation education in this country.

The Forest Service conservation education program will be an effective, dynamic means for the Forest Service to connect the American people with their environment. The Forest Service will provide the tools Americans need to participate effectively in the critical task of sustaining our Nation's natural and cultural resources. This understanding will be a coordinated, servicewide effort that will affect all aspects of the agency's operations.

Conservation Education is a program of the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
