Old Faithful WebCam News

Why did you change the view?

It wasn't our intention to change the view so that the boardwalk, or any other previously viewable thermal feature was left out of the picture. We changed cameras at Old Faithful for one with a factory installed lens that gives a sharper picture than the old camera. It wasn't know at the time of the switch that the lens had a smaller field of view.

Are you going to change it back?

Yes, we plan to switch the camera back to the old one on or about Thursday (Sept. 11, 2008) of this week. The field of view will be once again focused on the boardwalk as well as Old Faithful Geyser, and will be wide enough to take in the largest possible selection of other geysers.

What about Mt. Washburn? You used to have a webcam up there. Are you ever going to replace it?

Yes, preparations are under way to install a new camera at Mt. Washburn sometime within the next two weeks. Delays have resulted from limited seasonal accessibility, and changes to the telecommunications infrastructure at that remote location.
