Preparedness
Countermeasures Injury Compensation may compensate individuals
for serious physical injuries or deaths as a result
of a pandemic, epidemic, or security countermeasures,
such as a vaccine.

Only countermeasures specifically identified in
declarations by the Secretary, U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services are eligible for compensation
benefits, which may include out-of-pocket medical
expenses, lost employment income and/or survivor
death benefits.
Currently, only individuals who received the pandemic
influenza A (H5N1) vaccine on or after December 1,
2006 through February 28, 2010 are eligible to request
compensation.
Individuals have one (1) year from the date the vaccine
or other covered countermeasure was administered to
request compensation benefits.
Currently, no funds have been appropriated to provide
compensation. However, all potential requests for
benefits must still be filed within the one (1) year
limit.
How to File a Request for Benefits
Eligible individuals must send a letter of intent
to file a request for benefit in writing within
one (1) year of receiving a covered countermeasure.
