ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO TO URGE GREATER USE OF MEDIATION AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION, ON LAW DAY
Reno to Visit Los Angeles, San Diego
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- To celebrate Law Day, Attorney General Janet Reno and Associate Attorney General Ray Fisher will travel to California Friday to urge lawyers to make greater use of appropriate dispute resolution as a way to settle disputes. Law Day, which occurs every May 1, is a time to commemorate the value of the law and the freedoms that flow from it.
Recognizing that the federal courts are saddled with hundreds of thousands of cases, Reno will highlight the benefits of mediation and arbitration over costly, time consuming litigation. She will also emphasize that dispute resolution can be used in our classrooms and communities as well.
Reno will conduct a roundtable discussion with children who have experienced a mediation program at a county courthouse in Monterey Park, deliver a luncheon address on the role of lawyers as peacemakers and problemsolvers in Los Angeles, and give remarks and participate in discussion at California Western School of Law in San Diego.
