Can Social Security give me the address of someone whom I am trying to contact?
Question
Can Social Security give me the address of someone whom I am trying to contact?
Answer
No. Social Security's records are confidential and the Privacy Act precludes our releasing such information without the written authorization of the individual in question. For your information, we only have current address information on individuals who have applied for or are receiving benefits. We also have address information from employer reports of earnings but that information is protected by the Internal Revenue Code and we can't disclose it under these circumstances.
