Healthy People Consortium Meeting and Public Hearing Disability and Secondary Conditions |
| The Chapter 19, Disability and Secondary Conditions,
breakout meeting was attended by numerous new and interested participants. Because there
were new individuals, the initial portion of the meeting was spent providing an overview
of the objectives. Specific emphasis was given to the measurement objective (#1), and the
current status of research to develop the short set of items. The group was very
supportive of this direction. They were also quite concerned that "people with
disabilities" be included in numerous other objectives as a select population. In
addition, there was a suggestion that subgroups by age, ethnicity be included on certain
variables. There was also discussion of the need to include objectives similar to HP 2000
related to vision and hearing. Overall, the 12-15 participants were enthusiastic about the
chapter and objectives, and indicated personal and organizational commitment to
implementing the objectives that are included in HP 2010.
